Materialistic Monday: Envirosax bags

Oh, have I got a treat for you! This week's treasure is, well, actually five treasures.

Out in my car is a very small nylon sack. In that sack are five tiny rolled-up bags that snap closed.

When I hit the grocery store, Target, Benefit, whatever, I grab the sack out of my glove compartment and throw it into my purse, where it sits until check-out time.

And that, my friends, is where the Envirosax party begins! Out comes the sack and with a little flick of the wrist and a shwoop! I open each of the five bags and hand them over to the bagger, who stares in utter disbelief at how big and sturdy these bags are. Each one holds the equivalent of two environmentally-unfriendly and wimpy plastic grocery bags.

But have I mentioned how cool they look? I happen to have gotten the Retro Graphic set for Christmas (placed on our family's online giftlist by my very own self) and I love them! I gave my mom the 50s-looking Kitchen Graphic set and those are pretty darn cute, too. Every cashier at our local grocery store loves these bags and stops to write down the web site. And since the sack of bags lives in my car all the time, I am no longer getting to the store and realizing that I left my huge pile of bulky canvas bags at home.

Do not pass Go.

Do not stop to collect $200.

Get thee to the Envirosax web site.

Those are purty! I have a half dozen baggu bags and they rock. I love that my kids now remind me to bring them.

I should totally do something like this. What has stopped me in the past is that we use all those plastic Target bags--and paper grocery-store bags--for a diaper "pail", putting out our recycling (seriously--what does everyone use to put out all their recycling if they don't have paper bags? That's what EVERYONE in my neighborhood does, and what we've always used), to line our small bathroom trash-cans, and for cleaning the catbox. The rare times we run out of bags when we haven't been shopping in awhile, we're truly stuck! I guess I feel I recycle those bags in that way. But I do wonder what other folks do, the ones who use reusable shopping bags.

Ah, yes, we used to use them for diaper disposal, too, and you do go through a lot. Here in Chicago we use the Blue Bags for our recycling, which is a city-wide system wherein we are supposed to be able to throw them into the regular barrels and trust they'll be deal with properly - except that all reports show that they aren't, so we drive ours to the actual recycling center which, thankfully, is only a mile or two from our house. So we have no use for all those paper or plastic bags.
