Procrastination

Why am I procrastinating so? It's not my style. When I have a report to write for work, I get it done and out the door. So why is it that I've let three unwritten reports collect over my head like so many dark clouds for weeks?

It's not that they'll be difficult; they're not long reports. And no one's asking me for them; I think I usually get things done a lot faster than other people, so my productivity standard is high and probably a little out of whack.

But these things aside, why? Am I getting better at chilling out and not being so frantic about completing tasks? Maybe. Perhaps the past few months (year and a half?) are finally getting the better of me and I'm too burned out to push myself right now. I am really not sure.

It's not like I'm watching TV or reading by the fire in the evenings. There's always so much to do that it's incredibly easy to keep busy doing other things. Things that legitimately need doing. Anything but work.

When I talked to Matt about this last night, his comment was, "Well, it doesn't look like the wheels are falling off the bus."

He's right. The wheels aren't falling off the bus.

I just know I'll be happier when these things are done.

And yet I'm not doing them.

As a chronic procrastinator, I am always amazed by people like you who seem to "just get it done". You know you'll get to it, so the real question is why? I think even the most together of us needs to take a break, cut themseleves a little slack. Or maybe you just needed the reports to gel a little in your mind first. I bet by the time you've read this, you've already started one...

And, if you were looking for something else to occupy yourself, I tagged you for a meme!

Ooh, from a master procrastinator DON'T wait until the wheels actually fall off the bus...then other things start falling too! But, hey, you've had a full plate so cut yourself some slack! :-)

Hmmm...I am catching up, and so started with the Thanksgiving post. So, it looks to me like you've had Baxter's birthday(s!) to plan and execute, guests in your home (including some friends the other Sunday that COULD NOT tear themselves away from the cozy corner!), a broken laundry machine, and a Thanksgiving meal to plan. Oh, and then the everyday excitement of raising two boys, being a partner and working. Hmmm. I think this is just the long-winded version of what Niksmom above said. :-) As a chronic procrastinator myself, I still don't have a good answer for why I just don't "get it done". It is actually a thought-proviking question. And here I am at work, after leaving early yesterday because the Noster has pink eye, PROCRASTINATING by reading your blog and leaving a really long comment! Aaah! Someone stop me! And I STILL can't tell you why I am doing it!!!!!

Jordan refuses to liveblog it, so I'm here with an urgent update:

There's a washing machine repair man in our house right now!

Okay, babe, here you go:

He just walked into the kitchen, said 'hi' to me, and walked out, carrying some sort of tube thing!!!

How fascinating for those of you out there in blogland!

I'm going to start quoting Matt with that bus line. It's a good reminder to all of us! Oh, and happy washing machine!

I've been the same way lately. Must be the turn of the seasons?

I am a procrastinator and wish I wasn't because I am at the point now that I feel like I am so far behind that I can't catch up.

The reports can wait. This is a busy time of year!
