On Freedom

Baxter, who has been learning about American symbols at school: "If we have freedom ...well, then why do we have to go to school and do homework?!"

Good question, that.

Sounds like he's going to double-major like his dad. Possible analogues, as used by parents:

"If we have freedom ...well, then why do you have to hover here in the kitchen when you're free to go to the playroom?!"

"If we have freedom ...well, then why do I have to listen to you and your brother [sister] squabble?"

"If we have freedom ...well, then why can't I have half a bottle of wine right now, in the middle of the afternoon?!"

"If we have freedom ...well, then why can't I read you articles from the _New Yorker_ for bedtime?!"

I think you get my drift.
